Feed a Child’s vision is to eradicate poverty in a sustainable manner and to take God’s hope to the nations.

As a National Body we assist other NGO’s not only to be as effective as possible, but also to become sustainable and economically active.

Feed a Child currently makes an impact on the lives of approximately 10 000 people. Feed a Child has many projects and is delivering more than 2,000,000 meals per annum to people throughout South Africa and Africa.

It is estimated that almost 10% of the South African population are children representing all ethnical groups, living below the poverty line and in circumstances beyond their control.

Feed a Child is registered as a Public Benefit Organisation(PBO) under Section 18A (1)(a) and (1)(b) with the following Public Benefit Activities (PBA’s):

• Food

• Sustainability

• Water

• Education

• Healthcare and Medical Services

1. Food

The consequences of malnutrition are severe and include growth stunting, anaemia, decreased learning capacity and a weakened immune system. In an attempt to address these adverse challenges, Feed a Child is providing Instant Porridge that contains all the vitamins and minerals to enhance and maintain an immune system. This instant porridge requires no energy to prepare, it is mixed with water and is available in 5 flavours at a cost of less than R3 per meal.

2. Sustainability

Feed a Child Charity Shops

Most people want to feel good by ‘paying it forward’. Our Charity shops allow for this kind of goodwill. Anyone wanting to take leave of their unwanted, but still useful items, while simultaneously contributing positively to society, can make a huge difference without a hands-on involvement in projects.

Entrepreneurial Programs

Following the economic slump Feed a Child was obliged to look at alternative ways to secure a sustainable income. Over the past ten years Feed a Child has developed from a NPO using historical means to generate income to using a variety of online marketing and entrepreneurship programs for a more sustainable income stream.

About Our Vegetable Gardens

We acknowledge that feeding alone will not suffice, so we have also embarked on longer term solutions by training the communities to start their own vegetable gardens. Feed a Child has established over 150 vegetable gardens and many entrepreneurs were trained in the process.

Economic Enablement

Poverty does not necessarily drive negative social behavior e.g. theft, prostitution, drugs etc. Hunger does. Poverty can be the catalyst that causes malnutrition and hunger. Our goal for the community is serving the community through the sustainable programs whereby the scale of poverty and malnutrition will be diminished. The result being that the community is uplifted, and the balance is restored.

Events

Feed a Child also hosts various events throughout the year in order to raise funds for

this worthy cause.

3. WATER

The preservation and availability of clean water is of utmost importance at the Feed a Child projects. Sponsorships towards this initiative are most welcome.

4. EDUCATION/TRAINING

Education and training at all our projects form part of Feed a Childs’ daily activities.

As an invention to help eradicate poverty and uplift the skills of community members,Feed a Child is currently embarking on implementing various programs.

5. HEALTH CARE AND MEDICAL SERVICES

Funds raised from individuals/companies help to provide specialized healthcare

services, e.g. a person with no or limited financial support/orphans with a critical medical condition can receive the services of general practitioners or specialists i.e. orthopaedic services etc.
